Software management and inheritance
CID Hub separates software selection from installation. Administrators define the desired versions, the CID downloads the selected packages in the background, and an Administrator starts installation when the CID is available for maintenance.
Server software templates
Each registered OpenLab Server has a software template. The template defines the default OpenLab CDS version, operating-system updates, instrument drivers, and add-ons for CIDs registered to that server.
The template exists in CID Hub; it does not install software on the OpenLab Server. Its purpose is to keep related CIDs on a consistent, compatible software set.
Inheritance and exceptions
A CID inherits its server template by default. When the template changes, CID Hub updates the CID's desired software selections and queues any required downloads.
An Administrator can turn inheritance off for a CID that needs a different supported configuration. The CID then retains and manages its own selections until inheritance is turned on again. Re-enabling inheritance immediately replaces its pending selections with the current server template.
Compatibility and reset behavior
The selected OpenLab CDS version anchors the other choices. CID Hub filters drivers and add-ons to compatible versions and selects applicable operating-system updates. Changing the CDS version resets related selections to the defaults for the new version, so administrators must review any optional drivers and add-ons afterward.
The CDS version on a CID must match the CDS clients that connect to it and must be compatible with the OpenLab Server version. CID Hub compatibility filtering does not replace planning the coordinated OpenLab CDS environment change.
Download and installation
After a selection changes, the CID downloads the required artifacts without installing them. This two-phase model lets administrators schedule the disruptive part of an update. When installation begins, CID Hub applies components in a controlled order so prerequisites are available before dependent software.
For selection procedures, see Define a software template and Configure software exceptions. For installation, see Apply updates.
