Factory reset a CID

Factory reset a CID when its host configuration cannot be recovered or when the device must be reassigned. The reset clears the CID identity and configuration and requires you to register the device again.

warning

A factory reset removes the Windows VM, its drivers and add-ons, cached downloads, device identity, and local configuration. Wait for ongoing acquisition to complete, then confirm that recent data has reached the OpenLab Server before you continue. Data still in transit can be lost.

The reset preserves the installed CID agent, operating system, and hostname.

Prerequisites

  • Wait for ongoing acquisition to complete.
  • Confirm that recently acquired data has reached the OpenLab Server.
  • You must sign in with the Administrator role.
  • If you need the current CDS Desktop or Cockpit password before the reset, retrieve it before deleting the CID record.

Factory reset the CID

  1. In CID Hub, open the CID's Summary tab.
  2. Click Delete CID.
  3. Enter a reason and confirm the deletion.
  4. Power-cycle the CID at the chassis.

On the next boot, the CID detects the deletion and performs the factory reset. When it finishes, the CID waits for a new CID Hub record.

  1. Create a new CID record and register the device again. See Activate a CID.

If the CID does not activate, find the linked device by its PIN in the Devices list. While activation is pending, a current Last Connected value confirms that the device is reaching CID Hub. If the value does not update, check the device's internet connection.

The CID deletion remains available in the Activity Log and includes the device PIN. The PIN is also printed on the chassis. You can reuse the former CID name for the new record.
