OpenLab Servers
An OpenLab Server record supplies the connection, registration, software-template, and optional network-share settings used by its CIDs. Registering a record does not contact or modify the physical OpenLab Server.
Server fields
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Server Name (FQDN) | The fully qualified domain name of the OpenLab Server. It must contain a dot, cannot start or end with a dot, and must be unique within your CID Hub account. |
| Connect to this server using | Whether CIDs and CDS clients address the server by hostname or FQDN. The selection is available after you enter a valid FQDN. |
| Description | Optional information that helps identify the server. |
| Username | The OpenLab administrator account used when a CID registers as an instrument controller. For Active Directory authentication, use domain\username. |
| Password | The password for the OpenLab administrator account. CID Hub does not validate these credentials when you save the server record. |
Use the same hostname or FQDN convention for the CIDs, Analytical Instrument Controllers, and CDS clients that connect to one OpenLab Server. Changing the server name or connection convention can require its CIDs to register again.
CID Network Share fields
The optional CID Network Share lets CIDs reuse large CDS images on your local network.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| CID Network Share | An optional SMB path such as \\server\share. The maximum length is 256 characters. |
| Use Anonymous user | Connect without saved share credentials. Selecting this option disables the username and password fields. |
| CID Network Share Username | The account used to access the share when anonymous access is off. |
| CID Network Share Password | The password for the network-share account. |
CID Hub checks the share path and username format but does not connect to the share when you save the record. A CID checks access when it retrieves or caches an image. After changing share settings, restart the CID Agent on each CID that uses the server.
Limits and deletion rules
- An account can contain up to 100 active OpenLab Server records.
- A server name must be unique within the account.
- You can remove a server only when no CIDs are associated with it.
- Server edits and removals require a reason and are recorded in the Activity Log.
For procedures, see Set up CID Hub.
