Software update behavior
CID software changes have separate selection, download, and installation stages. Use this page to interpret update readiness and understand the order and recovery behavior CID Hub applies during installation.
Download and installation stages
After a software selection changes, each affected CID downloads the required Linux, OpenLab CDS, driver, or add-on package in the background. Windows knowledge base (KB) articles download as part of the Windows update operation. CID Hub does not install updates automatically. An administrator starts installation when the CID is available for maintenance.
On the CIDs list, Updates reports the overall readiness:
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Blank | No software changes are pending. |
| Downloading | At least one selected component that is downloaded before installation is still being retrieved. Installation is not available yet. |
| Ready | One or more pending components are downloaded and ready to install. |
| Updating | Software is being installed or removed. |
For the full CID list vocabulary, see CID statuses and record fields.
Installation order
When you apply several components together, CID Hub installs them in this order:
- Linux update
- OpenLab CDS
- Windows update
- Mandatory drivers
- Optional drivers and add-ons, in their displayed order
This order ensures that required platform and CDS versions are present before their dependent components install.
Failure behavior
| Component | Behavior after an installation failure |
|---|---|
| OpenLab CDS | If a new Windows VM fails to activate, the CID attempts to restore the previously active version. |
| Windows update | The CID retries the update up to five times at 60-second intervals. If every attempt fails, the CID continues on its current Windows patch level. |
| Driver | For a driver upgrade, the CID attempts to reinstall the previous version. If its installer is unavailable or the restore fails, CID Hub reports the failure. Other queued components continue installing. |
| Add-on | CID Hub reports the failure. Other queued components continue installing. |
CID Hub reports failures on the Software tab, in Recent Activity, and in the Activity Log. Components that completed successfully earlier in the same run remain installed.
For the installation and recovery procedure, see Apply updates.
